THE GRAND CANYON

THE GRAND CANYON is an amazing place.  How awesome is it that we have 1 of the 7 wonders of the world in ARIZONA.  We visited the SOUTH RIM of the GRAND CANYON.  It is $30.00 per car to enter the gate but that pass is good for 7 days.  You can go in and out as much as you want for 7 straight days.  THE GRAND CANYON is in the middle of nowhere.  I recommend bringing a bagged lunch and snacks with you because the food within 1 hour of the canyon is very expensive.  We had breakfast at the McDonald’s that is just outside the gate  and it was $28.00 for 2 breakfast sandwich meals.

Remember your camera and you will need some back up batteries on days like today.  We are outside all day with no place to charge up.  Here’s some cameras if you are looking for one.

I never imagined the GRAND CANYON could be so beautiful.   Our first day at the canyon was very rainy and foggy so the visibility was limited.  In one of our pictures we have a rainbow that is lower than we are because it’s down in the canyon.

The pocket map they give you at the gate is very helpful.  If you have never been to the GRAND CANYON; you could never imagine how large it is.  From the point you enter it is 25 miles to the right and 7 miles to the left.  This is just the SOUTH RIM.  The whole GRAND CANYON encompasses 277 miles.  All the way to the right is DESERT VIEW.  They have a watchtower there with a lot of history.  Along the way is about 5 other view points.  All are similar but yet so different.  The free bus that the park offers does not go to the last 5 view points to the right.  We did love the buses thou.  They have buses that go 4 different routes and run every 10 minutes.  Our favorite bus was the red one that went the 7 miles to HERMITS REST and the other 7 view points on the way. The Colorado River can be seen throughout many of the view points.

Many people camp at the GRAND CANYON.  You see lots of tents and campers.  Hiking is huge.  Also they rent out bikes.  In the park you will find a couple of museums, library, post office, bank, amphitheater, train depot, park store, cafe, hotel, lodge, and much more.  If you ever have the opportunity to visit the GRAND CANYON, DO IT!   Wear comfortable shoes you will be walking alot.
