• METEOR CRATER – FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA

Have you ever seen a METEOR CRATER?   It’s said that 50,000  years ago a meteor came hurtling about 40,000 miles per hour at earth.  The meteorite or clusters of meteorites are estimated to be about 150 feet across and weighing several hundred thousand tons and struck with explosive forces of 20 million tons.    The explosion left a crater 700 feet deep and over 4000 feet across.  They say to give you a better idea of the size, imagine 20 football games being played simultaneously on its floor, while more than 2 million spectators observe from its sloping sides. Scientists have done extensive studies of this METEOR CRATER through the years.  Also…

  • STANDIN ON THE CORNER OF WINSLOW ARIZONA

We found another famous place in ARIZONA.  It’s called WINSLOW – ARIZONA.   It’s actually the corner of ROUTE 66 and Kinsley Avenue in historic downtown.  It’s really weird because there is nothing there and nothing to do there.  The corner park has a life-size balladeer, a flatbed Ford, and a song playing that makes the corner so famous.  We wanted to STAND ON THE CORNER OF WINSLOW  ARIZONA.  It’s famous because of a song that mentions it in the lyrics.  It’s a very big deal there.  Most people have heard of the song TAKE IT EASY by the EAGLES.  Here’s the song… TAKE IT EASY Well I’m runnin’ down the road tryin’ to loosen…

  • JEROME – ARIZONA – GHOST

JEROME is in the Black Hills of ARIZONA.  It overlooks the Verde Valley 5000 feet above sea level.  JEROME is about 100 miles North of PHOENIX.   In 1876 it became a huge mining town on Cleopatra Hill.  By 1884 the price of copper had gone down 50% and the mining stopped.  By 1900 mining had started again and  was one of the largest mines in the world.  JEROME was growing now with a post office, school, churches, telephone service, and  electric lights.  The area had 3000 miners by 1916.  From 1876-1953 the mine in JEROME was thought to have produced about 33 million tons of gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc; this made the mine…

  • CAVE CREEK – ARIZONA 2017

When we arrived in PHOENIX, ARIZONA the first place we visited was CAVE CREEK.  This is a quaint little town.  It’s about 25 miles northeast of PHOENIX.  CAVE CREEK has many historic buildings and artifacts in town.  The Tubercular Cabin which is in the CAVE CREEK MUSEUM is in the National Register of Historic Places.  Also two other historic places are now restaurants today.  One is the CAVE CREEK SERVICE STATION; its better known as Big Earl’s Greasy Eats and is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  The other converted to a restaurant is the CAVE CREEK INN. We had dinner at a place called THE HORNY TOAD.…

  • INTERSTATE 17 – ARIZONA

While in ARIZONA we spent a lot of time traveling between PHOENIX, SEDONA, JEROME, and the GRAND CANYON.  It seemed where ever we drove INTERSTATE 17 was part of our journey.  The scenery along INTERSTATE 17 was beautiful.  They have viewing exits along the road.  The elevation of INTERSTATE 17 is so high you can see miles and miles through the valleys.  At night this drive is very scary when going up and down and around the sharp scary curves.  I prefer to travel on INTERSTATE 17 when it is daylight outside.  When visiting Arizona be sure you have your camera with you at all times. If you’re looking for a new camera check these out.…

  • THE GRAND CANYON

THE GRAND CANYON is an amazing place.  How awesome is it that we have 1 of the 7 wonders of the world in ARIZONA.  We visited the SOUTH RIM of the GRAND CANYON.  It is $30.00 per car to enter the gate but that pass is good for 7 days.  You can go in and out as much as you want for 7 straight days.  THE GRAND CANYON is in the middle of nowhere.  I recommend bringing a bagged lunch and snacks with you because the food within 1 hour of the canyon is very expensive.  We had breakfast at the McDonald’s that is just outside the gate  and it was $28.00 for…

  • APACHE TRAIL 2017

I loved this place.  It was one of my favorites during my trip to Arizona.  The Apache Trail was named this by the Apache Indians as they used the trail to get through the Superstition Mountains.  Part of the trail is paved and part is dirt.  Some of the trail has only a single lane and is very scary on curves and bridges.  The scenery through the APACHE TRAIL is incredible so have your camera ready. The higher you drive up and through the APACHE TRAIL the narrower and scarier the driver becomes.  As you observe the beauty around you it becomes more breathtaking as you round curve after curve.…

  • THE GRAND CANYON BY HELICOPTER 2017

THE GRAND CANYON is a once in a life time experience so I wanted to make the most of my experience by getting the best view possible.  I thought that the higher I am the better view I would have and the more I could see so the best way I could think of was by air.  I was right.  Seeing the GRAND CANYON from a helicopter is the BEST!  You can see everything and for miles and miles. We paid $199.00 per person for 30 minutes and it was incredible.  This was the best deal I could find.  It was with PAPILLON HELI TOURS.   www.papillon.com  They had to cancel our 1st flight…

  • GOLDFIELD GHOST TOWN

GOLDFIELD GHOST TOWN is at the foot of the the APACHE TRAIL on the SUPERSTITION MOUNTAINS.  They have a lot to do here.  They have shops, historic buildings, saloon, museum, gold panning, train ride, zipline, mystery shack, horseback riding, shooting gallery,  and you can see a gun fight every hour of the  day. Goldfield was established in 1893 when gold was found here.   Back then the town had 3 saloons, a post office,  a boarding house, general store, blacksmith shop, butcher shop, brewery,  and a school.  After only five years the gold miners left and the town became a ghost town.  The city was re-established in 1921  as YOUNGSBERG…
