JEROME – ARIZONA – GHOST

[metaslider id=2218]

JEROME is in the Black Hills of ARIZONA.  It overlooks the Verde Valley 5000 feet above sea level.  JEROME is about 100 miles North of PHOENIX.   In 1876 it became a huge mining town on Cleopatra Hill.  By 1884 the price of copper had gone down 50% and the mining stopped.  By 1900 mining had started again and  was one of the largest mines in the world.  JEROME was growing now with a post office, school, churches, telephone service, and  electric lights.  The area had 3000 miners by 1916.  From 1876-1953 the mine in JEROME was thought to have produced about 33 million tons of gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc; this made the mine one of the richest ever and worth over a billion dollars.   After the great depression everything dried up in JEROME and the population fell to 100 people.   Those 100 people left in JEROME decided to turn to tourism and JEROME became a National Historic Landmark in 1967.

This hotel is the largest National Historic Landmark building in JEROME.  It opened in 1927 as The United Verde Hospital.  In 1930 it was the most modern and equipped in Arizona.  When in 1953 it closed as the mining ended.    For 44 years it sat empty till 1994 when it was converted to THE JEROME GRAND HOTEL.  Guest staying in the hotel started reporting seeing and hearing unexplained things from the beginning of opening as a hotel.  Examples like nurses and doctors in hallways, a cat meowing and scratching at doors, a 4 or 5 year old child walking in hallways and standing at end of beds, hearing coughing, sneezing, crying, laughing, giggling, and talking; even shadows were being seen.  TVs and lamps were being unplugged, shampoo bottles were rolling and flying across rooms, and doors were opening and closing in empty rooms.  They say that the 3rd floor has the most activity.   It was so bad that some guest would check out in the middle of the night.

As research began it was found that as a hospital there were as many as 9000 deaths that occurred there.  Some from illness and others from injuries.  In 1935 the maintenance man was found dead under the elevator and in 1950 someone hired to watch over the building was found hanging.

In 2011 THE JEROME GRAND HOTEL was featured on GHOST ADVENTURES.  Today THE JEROME GRAND HOTEL is known as one of the TOP 10 MOST HAUNTED HOTELS IN THE COUNTRY!!    THIS IS A MUST SEE! www.jeromegrandhotel.net

When we were there the hotel was closed for renovations so we took a ghost tour from the person who does the tours at the Grand Hotel.  Our tour was only the second tour being done in the  JEROME MUSEUM.  We toured the basement, attic, film room, and the roof of the museum.  Our tour guide, Chris is family of the owners of the GRAND HOTEL and the MUSEUM.  Also he was featured on  the episode of GHOST ADVENTURES.  We had a great tour.  He had EVP recorders, EMF meters, cameras, flashlights, thermometers, and a couple of games for us to use to look for some ghost. The only weird thing we saw was flashlights turning off and on but it was still cool. We did a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. Also bring your cameras. Check out these cameras if you’re looking for a camera.
